Description:

Prologue recap that only appeared on european versions of the film, including the recent Region 2 SE DVD. Star Trek III had a limited cinema run in Europe, not even playing in many places. So this recap was specifically designed to bring audiences up to speed on what they had missed.

This was in the Australian release as well! I thought it was everywhere! Certainly did the trick because I saw this before I ever saw II and III!

Was this prologue part of the European theatrical release or on the DVD only? I had no idea that the European versions of films could be so different from their US counterparts. It was cool to see this!

this is more like star trek III in 3 minutes than a prologue to IV. If it had a limited run, then this is perfect to set the stage, though if not, i dont blame them for leaving this out of the US one.

I disagree as somebody that saw this in the cinema. And not having seen III before hand. *seeing* this footage was more than welcome. The reason this prologue was added was because III had alimited cinema run in Europe, not even playing in many places.

This was completely unnecessary. The only thing people needed to know about (why Spock wasn't the ol' Spock anymore, and why they were in a Klingon ship) were answered in the body of the movie. Kirk had a voice over that explained the situation. Most of this stuff is useless information, and it's too much for people who just want the damned movie to start.

The US version just started with the opening credits and went right into the probe traveling through space. I do wish they had this prologue for release here in the states; it's not that bad.
