cortmeister262 ::: Favorites Really? Did the Navy sell off the land or what? Our Bootcamp barracks used to be right at the foot of the San Diego airport runway, so I don't think anyone would want to build condos there. The other place that they used to have Navy Bootcamp was Orlando Fla. I wonder if they still have it there? Take care. 07-07-05 14:25:16 __________________________________________________
DCsharkz ::: Favorites Ok, well I did some research, and they closed down all boot camps, and the only one that is operating is in Great Lakes, IL. There are two bases here in San Diego, one is in Coronado, and the other one I can't remember where it is. Anyways I really dug your story, my Grandfather, and my dad where in the Navy, my brother is in right now and I'm talkin to the recruiter fillin out a bunch of paper work eesh, lol. 07-07-07 04:24:16 __________________________________________________
cortmeister262 ::: Favorites Well good luck! Do you have any idea what you want to do? Not that you have to know or decide anything before you go in. Thanks for the kind words! Take care. 07-07-07 08:49:52 __________________________________________________
DCsharkz ::: Favorites Information technology I hope, or something like that, but you know it depends on what jobs are available that they want people for I might pick from their list. You're welcome, and take care as well. 07-07-08 21:05:40 __________________________________________________
flojogrande ::: Favorites I remember things that happened around that time too! Vanessa Williams got in trouble for her penthouse spread while crowned Miss America. We had a contraband copy of the Penthouse going around the Barracks till the CC got ahold of it. 07-05-26 21:38:22 __________________________________________________

flojogrande ::: Favorites Company 152 graduated September of 1984. I remember the first night vividly. Going through R/O, (Receiving and Outfitting) we didn't get to bed that first night till 0100 hours, The cc just to see what we were made of woke us up that mornin' at 0400 rattling a stick in a garbage can, after only 3 hours of sleep. The next days were at 0600 till we went through "Hell Week" and worked in the Galley. I did 12 years from 1984-1996: 07-05-26 13:49:26 __________________________________________________
cortmeister262 ::: Favorites I still dream about being in the Navy and I'm late for watch or I'm not ready for an inspection, LOL ! I remember hearing about Patty Hearst being brainwashed and at the time, I was in the 8th grade and didn't believe a word of it. It wasn't until that first night in R&O that I realized how pliable the human mind really is, I'd have done almost anything for sleep and a drink of water, and that was only the first day! What was your rate? What kind of ship were you on? 07-05-26 21:14:44 __________________________________________________
flojogrande ::: Favorites Listen to this. There was a Philipino Master Chief that was in charge of Firefighter training at 32nd street. I never knew him but I outprocessed in San Diego. What I remember was how many tattoos this guy had for a Philipino. You just don't see that amongst them. 12 years later and I still remembered him from that day in Boot Camp. He was now retired and a security gaurd at Horton Plaza. I went up to him and we talked. It was in fact him! I was just visiting places while waiting to outprocess. 07-05-26 21:42:56 __________________________________________________ |
