Oistrakh and Richter truly are a great duo. A great performance from every angle. The recording with Rostropovich + Karajan of the Beethoven Triple is quite good also. (random thought)

You'll have to check this... but recall reading that even though he started this sonata as opus 80, it was actuall one of the last pieces he finished (I'm pretty sure he finished the first sonata after transcribing 94b for violin). You can really hear the maturity in the music...

Been listening to this for an hour straight. This is Prokofiev at his very best. This is op.80, don't forget that op.82-84 are the war sonatas, the mighty piano sonatas #6-7-8, a monument, IMO the summit of piano litterature. This is the infinitely inspired, mature Prokofiev showing the world he is, simply put, the best. What is there to say about this interpretation? Tears come to my eyes, that's about it. It's supreme artistry.
